Faith Foundation is Trinity’s introductory course in the Christian faith as confessed and taught in the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. It is intended both for people who are new to Christianity or Lutheranism and for longtime Christians who want to strengthen their understanding of the faith.
The course ordinarily meets on Wednesday evenings for twelve weeks during the fall. We begin with a meal and time together before the evening’s study. Faith Foundation is open to individuals and families, and you do not need to be a member of Trinity or committed to becoming one in order to attend.
What We Study
Over the course of the class, we work through the basic shape of the Christian faith: God and creation, sin and salvation, Jesus Christ, Scripture, Law and Gospel, faith and the means of grace, Baptism, the Lord’s Supper, the Church and ministry, Christian vocation and witness, the Christian hope, and Lutheran worship.
The Bible is our primary text, with the Small Catechism and Lutheran Confessions helping us understand and confess what Scripture teaches. The class also leaves room for questions and discussion about Christian belief and life.
Faith Foundation and Membership
Faith Foundation is one of the primary ways Trinity prepares adults who are interested in becoming members of the congregation. Those considering membership can use the course to become familiar with Trinity’s confession and practice before making that public confession their own.
Membership, however, is not a requirement for attending. You are welcome to participate simply because you want to learn more about Christianity, Lutheran teaching, or Trinity.
